2-3 Years

When a toddler reaches 2 years of age they will have grown and developed a lot and will no longer resemble a baby. They will be active a form sentences; they will be expressing ideas, wants and needs; and they will be keen to assert themselves. They will also be developing a sense of self and self-identity, seeing themselves as an individual and separate to others.

The majority of toddlers will now begin potty/toilet training and will be becoming more independent with care routines.

By 2 years of age a toddler should no longer be sleeping in a cot but starting to settle into a toddler bed or single bed. They will also be able to sit at a table with their family at mealtimes, no longer needing a highchair, and will begin to use a toddler fork and knife and a plastic cup with no lid for meals and snacks.
